Our Story
On March 8, 2024, Yoda was attacked by another dog. Despite our best efforts to save him, Yoda left us on March 9, 2024. It was exactly 12 years to the day from when he entered my life.
The dog that attacked Yoda had attacked my grandmother, Joan, on September 30, 2021. It wasn’t until after Yoda’s passing we learned that Shore Animal Control concluded that my grandmother’s injuries were from a fall. We have a police report and hospital records that say my grandmother’s injuries were indeed from a dog bite. Shore Animal Control sent one of their officers to my grandmother’s house to take photos of her injury. The health department was notified to confirm the dog was up to date on their rabies vaccine.
Shore Animal Control is under contract with Lower Township (along with multiple other municipalities) to perform Animal Control Services. As of right now there are NO dogs deemed potentially dangerous, despite the many dog attacks that have happened.
I have personally met with Lower Township manager, asking for answers. Who is responsible for checking to make sure Shore Animal Control upholds their responsibilities, on both a state level and local. What are the checks and balances, if any?
This is no longer about just my dog and my grandmother, this is now a PUBLIC HEALTH and PUBLIC SAFETY issue.
